A gallery car’s year does not date its paint option

Porsche’s Atlanta colour exhibition includes a 1988 911 Carrera in Rubystar, formerly called Rubystone Red. The accompanying story describes a later Safari conversion by The Keen Project and a change from the car’s original finish.

Here, 1988 dates the car. It does not establish that this paint was a factory option that year. Porsche’s exhibition account instead places the colour’s prominence in the early 1990s, on the 964-generation 911 and 928.
